Daxak Club Win WINLINE Star Series 4

Daxak Club finished WINLINE Star Series Season 4 as champions, sweeping Stariy_Bog Club 3:0 in the Dota 2 grand final on September 19. The title match was best of five, but the winners needed only the minimum three games to close it out. It completed an upper-bracket run for Daxak’s team and ended Stariy_Bog’s attempt to turn a lower-bracket recovery into the championship.

The finalists had already played each other twice during the competition, first in Group A and then in the upper playoff bracket. The last meeting was therefore a rematch between teams with a shared route through much of the event, rather than their first encounter of the season. Daxak Club won each of those meetings, with the closest contest coming before the final. Season 4 took place online from September 10 through September 19, with a total prize fund of ₽3.5 million. Matches could be followed through the channels of captains and other participants. The championship wrapped up both the playoff bracket and a competition that had begun with round-robin group play, where losing a series did not immediately end a team’s tournament.

Daxak’s group stage was not a perfect run

Daxak Club recorded straight-map wins against Recrent Club, NS Club and Stariy_Bog Club during Group A. Voodoosh Club provided the setback, taking their meeting 2:1. The eventual champions therefore did not go unbeaten across the whole competition, even though the final itself ended in a sweep. Stariy_Bog’s group results included a 2:0 win over Voodoosh Club, a 2:1 victory against Recrent Club and another straight-map win over NS Club. Those results placed the eventual finalists among the teams advancing from the same group. Elsewhere in the group phase, Stray Club beat Rostik999 Club without conceding a game and overcame both YBN Club and Rostikfacekid Club in deciding maps, but lost its match against Cooman Club.

The group stage fed into two different playoff paths. The top two teams in each group entered the upper bracket, while the third-place finishers started below them. Teams finishing fourth or fifth were eliminated. All group matches were best of three, so advancing depended on the wider set of series results rather than on a single knockout match. The playoff stage then used double elimination. An upper-bracket loss sent a team into the lower bracket rather than immediately out of the event; defeat on that lower path was terminal. This distinction became central to Stariy_Bog’s campaign after its upper-bracket loss to Daxak. The finalists still had a way back to the championship match, but first had to win an elimination series. Playoff matches retained the best-of-three format until the title decider, which was the competition’s best-of-five exception.

How the finalists reached their rematch

Stariy_Bog had begun its playoff campaign by beating Rostikfacekid Club 2:1. After losing to Daxak, it met Voodoosh Club in the lower-bracket final and won in a deciding game. Voodoosh had reached that stage by defeating Rostikfacekid Club and Stray Club, both in three-game series. Stray Club had itself survived an earlier elimination match against Cooman Club, winning 2:1 before meeting Voodoosh. Voodoosh’s lower-bracket run eventually ended one match short of the grand final, while Stariy_Bog advanced to face an opponent it had already lost to in the upper bracket. Daxak Club, meanwhile, stayed on the upper path. Its playoff results show how the champions moved from their first knockout-stage opponent to the final rematch:

Daxak Club now follow that roster as champions of the next edition, after coming through a group-stage defeat and then winning every series on their playoff route.
